BENFLEET CRICKET CLUB Won 6 wickets
Benfleet 1st XI 252-4
Old Southendians 249-2
Benfleet won by 6 wickets.
A great cricket match which saw the bat being the real winner, the relief amongst the 1st team was there for all to see at the end of the game and lets hope we can go on from here.
We won the toss and put the Old boys into bat, a good opening spell from Fuzzy and Pupps kept them at bay and never let them away to a flyer, with some more luck and the ball going to hand rather than the gaps both bowler would of taken wickets. We welcomed back Steedy after he had finished his love affair with Southend United and this helped add some control to the attack. The showers mid way through their innings did not help the state of the ball and made for difficult bowling and fielding conditions.
When we batted we got off to a great start with Doggy and Tremmers putting on over 75 before the first wicket fell (Doggy it was noted by me and Proph you left without buying a jug), then Proph came to the crease after his visit to the playground with his daughter and preceeded to take out some agression on the Old Boys bowlers, he smashed the ball to all corners of the ground on his way to a excellent 102 not out.. Also well done to Ray Gipo who played a lovely innings and showed his great promise in stroking the winning runs to bring home the first 18 points of our season.
Lets keep the momentum going boys, stay positive and lets keeping working on our games.
