The skipper won the toss for a change and we inserted our friends from Southend much to the disgust of Ben Wathen- this was the first of many interesting comments from Ben throughout the afternoon. They got off to an agressive start before the Steed brothers brought back some control and with that a five wicket haul for the old warehorse. Highlights of their innings had to be Ben Wathen hitting the ball straight to Proph the ball after we had moved the fielder their and Richie ooops Sorry Joe Daly's first baller - you would never had guessed he scored 400 runs for us last year ah Proph......I have never seen Ron so excited.
I'm not sure what Mrs Woollard put in the tea but when we batted the verbals and sledging started from ball one as Doggy and Gambo ruffled a few feathers with some lovely shots and some lusty blows.....unfortunately none of our batters went on past 50 and that was the reason that we had to settle for the draw. I think that it was alledged that we were not trying to go for the runs well I can assure all that we were going for the victory up until the point where we knew we did not have the batting to get the runs, I suppose we should apologise for not giving our wickets away and handing 20 points to the opposition but I wont.
Anyway a very interesting last home game of the season and one that was not totally an enjoyable experience.
