BENFLEET CRICKET CLUB Benfleet U16 v Colchester and East Essex on Sun 18 May 2008 at 13.00
BENFLEET CRICKET CLUB Lost by 149 runs
Another game saw Colchester and East Essex come to the "Home of Good Cricket" Woodside Park.
Benfleet winning the toss decided to bowl and the decision looked like the right one with 2 quick wickets leaving them 18-2 and at the halfway stage they had only managed to get to 90-2. However a century from their skipper and another batsman getting 70 they managed to get to 243-5 in their 40 overs.
And a special mention to the teas which saw another excellent display from sue with the mini hotdogs and cakes kept in the lineup after an excellent debut in the previous home game!!
Once again we were looking at a large target in order to win the second game of the season and again a good start was needed. However the team never really got going with Benfleet 46-3 at the drinks break. From here the win was never really likely and we were all out in the 39th over for just 94. Again the team spirit and committment of the team showed as callum used his head instead of his hands to stop a certain 4 and was taken to hospital with a cut to his eye. He later returned ready to bat if needed but it was decided it was not worth it.
It was a tough test against a very good team. Hopefully the future games will bring more joy
