Benfleet won the toss and decided to bat against top of the table Harold Wood and after 9 overs found themselves 14 for 1 with yet again last year's player of the year, John Hearn, back in the pavilion for 6. Out of form Martin Jackson, who had been rested from the 3rd XI, injected some acceleration into the scoring with one big six and four fours before being out for 27. Rob Zammitt then joined in form Peter Reeve and they proceeded to beat the previous 4th XI Club record for the 3rd wicket by putting on 176. Rob finally being out for 88 with just four balls of the 52 overs to go. The Benfleet innings was declared at 242 for 3 with Peter Reeve finishing on 105 not out.
Harold Wood started with some spectacular hitting from their opening bat until Grant Handley managed to remove his off stump. Although the run rate was slowed down by the introduction of John Hearn (3 for 45 of 13.1 overs) into the bowling attack Harold Wood were still make good progress towards their target and won by 4 wickets in the last over of the final 20.
