BENFLEET CRICKET CLUB Won by 2 wickets
Brentwood 5th won the toss and decided to bat. Mark Acraman made the first break through with the score on 31. Grant Handley then removed the dangerous looking Brentwood opener with the score on 46. John Hearn the took two wickets in two balls to reduce Brentwood to 56 for 4 but they recovered to 133 before John Hearn did it again with two in two. Another couple of wickets followed to leave Brentwood on 150 for 8 but Benfleet hoped to remove the last two cheaply did no materialise and Brentwwod declared after 52 overs on 225 for 9.
Rob Zammitt dominated an opening partnership of 61 with Peter Reeve who was run out for 5. Rob Zammitt was seond out for 51. The middle order kept the run rate up but Benfleet lost their fourth wicket just before the start of the 20 overs with 122 on the board. Skipper Deryck Povey then joined John Hearn who shared a 64 partnership which saw the run rate brought down from 5 runs an over to just over 4 but when the skipper was out having contributed only 12 to the partnership there was still much to do. However John Hearn was still there and despite the slowing of the run rate with the fall of wickets Benfleet edged ever nearer. The last over saw John Hearn on 95 at the non strikers end with 5 needed to win. Grant Handley took the pressure of by hitting the first ball for 4 before being out on the second ball. Mark Acraman then confidently hit the winning run
